why do you use SMS verification when I transfer my mobile number to MATE?

At MATE, we take your privacy and safety very seriously.

We must follow legislated rules when customers transfer (port) their phone numbers from another provider to MATE.

We use two-factor authentication (2FA) at the point of transfer to avoid mobile number fraud and ensure that the number is not being hijacked by scammers.

2FA is the most common form of Multi-factor identity authentication (MFA) and is more secure than logging in using a password because it communicates with an account or device already associated with a user’s identity.

When you request to transfer your mobile number to MATE:

  1. We will send an SMS to the mobile number that you have requested to transfer with a unique authorisation link;
  2. You must click the link provided in the SMS.

The mobile transfer will not take place unless this unique link is authorised.
