Enabling IPv6 – Generic Modem Guides
To make it a little easier, see the list below of common modem/routers with a general step-by-step guide to follow.
Before you begin:
Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the device you are using to access your modem/router (e.g. computer/laptop/smartphone/tablet). If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you should turn off your mobile data connectivity or any hotspot connection during this process.
NOTE: you do not need to have a working internet connection to connect to the Wi-Fi of the modem or access the modem gateway page.
Alternatively, you can plug in an RJ-45 Ethernet cable from your computer or laptop to one of the yellow LAN ports on the back of the modem.
ASUS
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device.
- Enter http://www.asusrouter.com or 192.168.20.1 in the address bar.
- Enter login credentials.
- Default Username & Password: Usually admin / admin (check router label if unsure).
- If you’ve changed the login details, use your custom credentials.
- To the left, scroll down to Advanced Settings and select IPv6.
- Change Connection Type to Native.
- Ensure the following settings are selected:
- DHCP-PD: Enabled
- Auto Configuration Setting: Stateless
- Connect to DNS Server automatically: Enabled
- Enable Router Advertisement: Enabled
- Click Apply.
- Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.
- Restart/Reboot all devices connected to your router, such as phones, laptops, smart TVs, Google Home, Alexa, and others etc.
HUAWEI
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device.
- Enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
- Enter login credentials.
- Default Username & Password: Usually admin / admin (check router label if unsure).
- You can try the alternative password: admin@HG659
- Click on the Internet tab, and then select Internet Settings.
- Select on your existing connection and click Edit.
- Edit the following settings:
- IP protocol version: IPv4 + IPv6
- IPv6 addressing type: DHCP
- Static DNS: NO (unticked)
- Click Save.
- Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.
- Restart/Reboot all devices connected to your router, such as phones, laptops, smart TVs, Google Home, Alexa, and others etc.
NETCOMM
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device.
- Enter 192.168.20.1 in the address bar.
- Sign in using the default username and password admin (these details are also printed on the back of the router).
- Select INTERNET. A box will appear headed ‘Internet Service Information’.
- Click on the linked Description name to open the Edit Existing settings dialog.
- In the Edit Existing dialog box, select More Options.
- Change IP Protocol to IPV4/IPV6.
- Click Update.
- Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.
- Restart/Reboot all devices connected to your router, such as phones, laptops, smart TVs, Google Home, Alexa, and others etc.
NETGEAR
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device.
- Enter http://www.routerlogin.net into the address bar.
- Enter login credentials and click OK to login.
- Default Username & Password: Usually admin / password (check router label if unsure).
- If you’ve changed the login details, use your custom credentials.
- Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > IPv6.
- In the Internet Connection Type list, select Auto Config.
- Click on Apply.
- Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.
- Restart/Reboot all devices connected to your router, such as phones, laptops, smart TVs, Google Home, Alexa, and others etc.
TELSTRA
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device.
- Enter 192.168.0.1 or http://mymodem in the address bar.
- Sign in using the default username admin and default password Telstra (these details are also printed on the back of the router).
- Go to Advanced > Local Network > Local Network-IPv6.
- Tick the check box for IPv6 Enabled.
- Change the DNS Provider to Get dynamically from ISP or ‘Auto’.
- Click Save/ Apply.
- Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.
- Restart/Reboot all devices connected to your router, such as phones, laptops, smart TVs, Google Home, Alexa, and others etc.
Note: if this does not work, you may need to attempt a factory reset and setup your MATE setup again and go through re-enabling IPv6.
TP-LINK
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device that is connected to the network.
- Enter tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
- Enter login credentials and click Login.
- Default Username & Password: Usually admin / admin (check router label if unsure).
- If you’ve changed the login details, use your custom credentials.
- There are two ways to enable IPv6 on TP-Link routers which vary from model to model.
Option 1:
- Select ADVANCED > IPv6 > Enable IPv6.
- Set Internet connection type to Dynamic IP(SLAAC/DHCPv6).
- Scroll down to IPv6 LAN and change Assigned Type to DHCPv6.
- Click Save.
Option 2:
- Select ADVANCED > Network > Internet or DSL/EWAN (Depending on your type of internet connection).
- Click the Edit icon under Modify.
- Enable both IPv4 & IPv6.
- Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
5. Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.

ZTE
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or Wi-Fi device.
- Enter 192.168.20.1 in the address bar.
- Sign in using the default username and password admin (these details are also printed on the back of the router).
- If you’ve changed the login details, use your custom credentials.
- Under Internet settings page, select WAN.
- Depending on the type of connection you have select the correct option:
- For FTTP/FTTC/HFC or Fixed Wireless select Ethernet.
- For FTTN/ FTTB select VDSL or DSL.
- Ensure the following settings are applied:
- IP Version: IPv4/IPv6.
- IPv6 Info Acquire Mode: Auto
- Request PD: On
- Unnumbered Mode: Off
- GUA Allowed From: SLAAC Unticked
- DHCPv6 & PD: both Ticked
- Depending on the type of connection you have select the correct option:
- Click Save/ Apply.
- Close the modem configuration page and restart your modem/router.
- Restart/Reboot all devices connected to your router, such as phones, laptops, smart TVs, Google Home, Alexa, and others etc.
