The speed of an adsl service is ultimately determined by a number of factors, mainly the quality of the copper in your area, as well as how far you are away from your local exchange.
There are a few things you can do to make sure you are getting the best possible line speed available:
- Ensure any device plugged into a phone socket in your home, such as phones, faxes, answering machines, alarms etc. are all fitted with a good quality ADSL splitter/filter;
- Ensure your phone line has a clear, working dial tone. Even though most people don’t use a landline phone these days, adsl requires a working phone line to operate effectively;
- Make sure your internal wiring is in good condition. If this is not the case we would suggest getting your internal wiring checked by a private contractor. We recommend Mr Telco
- Make sure your modem is adsl2+ compliant and if you are mainly using Wi-Fi, make sure your Wi-Fi signal is of a good range standard (e.g: N300 is the lowest Wi-Fi range available).
MATE is no longer providing new ADSL internet plans. nbn has been rolling out a national broadband infrastructure project to all Australians that is replacing the older ADSL network.
