what is nbn Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)?

Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) is a type of nbn™ technology. This type of nbn™ connection uses the existing copper telephone network and an nbn™ network connection device that plugs into a traditional telephone wall socket in your home.

An nbn™ FTTC connection is used in circumstances where fibre is extended close to your premises, connecting to a small Distribution Point Unit (DPU), generally located inside a pit on your street. From here, an existing copper telephone line is connected to the fibre to form the final nbn™ connection.

To power your FTTC service with electricity and provide your connection to the nbn™ network, an FTTC nbn™ connection device will be required inside your home. If you do not have an FTTC nbn™ connection device already, this will be provided when you sign-up and an order is placed to connect nbn™.

In some cases, you may be eligible to perform self-installation of the nbn™ connection device, in other cases a technician visit will be required to install this.

To connect to the internet on FTTC, you will require a compatible router with a WAN port that will plug into the nbn™ FTTC nbn™ connection device in your home. You can use an existing router/modem (BYO), or you can purchase a modem/router from us.
