what is nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)?

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) is a type of nbn™ technology. This type of nbn™ connection uses an optic fibre line that runs to an nbn™ network device (box) that will be installed somewhere inside your home.

If this device is not already installed in your home, on the day of an FTTP installation, someone over the age of 18 needs to be home to authorise the work as the nbn technician will do the following:

  1. Connect a fibre optic cable from your street to an nbn™ utility box installed on the outside of your home;
  2. Drill a small hole through your wall and feed the fibre optic cable from the outside into the nbn™ connection box, also called a Network Termination Device (NTD).

To connect to the internet on an FTTP connection, you will require a compatible router with a WAN port that will plug into the nbn™ NTD. You can use an existing router/modem (BYO), or you can purchase a modem/router from us.

More information about nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) can be found on the nbn™ website.
