why am I having issues with SMS/MMS?

If you are experiencing issues sending or receiving SMS or MMS messages, then you will need to provide us with some specific examples of messages that you have tried to send that have not been successful. You’ll need to make a note of the following details:

  • The exact time and date you attempted to send or receive the message;
  • The mobile number you attempted to send to, or receive the SMS/MMS from

We will require three (3) different examples before we can investigate with our network provider. You will also need to try your SIM card in a different mobile phone handset, as we have to rule out the possibility that the issue is being caused by your phone.

If you are trying to send an MMS and receive the message: “Message not sent, service not activated on network”, this usually indicates that the file you are trying to send via MMS is too large.

If it is a photo you are sending, we recommend checking that the HDR setting is not enabled on your smartphone camera. This setting combines multiple shots into one photo, so the file size of these are much larger.

We would highly recommend using a free service such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger rather than MMS to send files as this is free and there are fewer restrictions.
